Clwyd North needs a Labour MP. The empty promises of the Tories have rung for too long and our communities have had enough. We need an MP with an established local profile and the passion, drive and proven ability to work towards a better future for us all. My name is Gill German and I am that MP.
This place is part of who I am. I grew up, brought my children up and live my life here. A local teacher for many years, my route into politics came straight from the inequalities I saw grow year on year from those classrooms. As a Development Officer working across Wales on Welsh Government’s project to tackle the impact of poverty on education, that picture became starker still.
That first-hand experience of the detrimental effects caused by callous Westminster policies led me to go out and campaign for what Labour has to offer - fairness, opportunity and equity - so that every one of us can fulfil our potential. It also led me to organise for equality within the Labour movement by co-founding North Wales Labour Women and as a committed trade unionist, I organised and campaigned as a local association member and workplace rep to represent teachers as part of the NASUWT for many years.
I led the winning campaign that turned Denbighshire County Council red for the very first time, connecting with the community on the doorstep and beyond to not only become a Town and County Councillor in my own highly contested ward but to secure enough new Labour seats to lead Denbighshire and form a cabinet.
I am so proud to be Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Families in our first ever Labour led Denbighshire County Council and I’ve wasted no time putting Labour values into action. Dw i'n defnyddio fy Nhgymraeg hefyd fel siaradwr Cymraeg newydd.
It is clear though that the levers of change rest solidly with the Westminster government. I want a hand on those levers to move them to fairness and equity as Clwyd North’s Labour MP.
I have made it a hallmark of my work to listen to the people who live and work here, across our coastal and rural communities and towns and as MP, I will be no different, staying rooted here to best represent us in Westminster.
I know I can be the Clwyd North Labour MP we need. I have the proven track record to listen and connect with the people who live here – from Rhyl to Rhos on Sea, from Colwyn Bay to Denbigh, from Abergele to Rhuddlan - and represent us around the big table of Westminster.
Let’s turn Clwyd North red and build a better future together.
